Salvador,

Espero prontas noticias.

Naturally I remember you, but much more of Pedro your brother who is more or less of my same age (53 years) both I remember with much affection and I did it very especially recently, because I slept in the Astoria Hotel.

Remember that my mother got into agreement with you so that the letters that I sent from Trinidad- Venezuela would go to the Astoria Hotel because they did not arrive at the property of my parents in Cumanacoa where I then lived.

I would like to also know of you and also of Mrs. Coscarart, who was always so nice with my parents and me.

I world like to see you when you come to Venezuela, or when I shall go to the Gulf where you say that you do not leave because of lots of work.

I like very much the photo that you sent to me where you appear and Pedro.

It seems that we are old.

Wait when you see mine, there you will see my daughter Helena, who is 8 years old, my fiancee, Dulce Márquez, whose age I cannot say, because she would kill me and a friend who is in the photo also is called Pedro (I also sent them to Attila with a small message).

Greetings and a strong hug.

He was pleasing to know about you.

I wait for the quick news.

Miguel Angel

(But you did not send the photo to the CIRCULAR!!! Ed.)

Raul

Greetings to all,

In the first place I inform you that indeed Enrique Gomez died a pair of years ago but he did not die in a bar in Spain, he died of a heart attack in Caracas or Cumana (I do not remember well).

He and Cheche they were in Form III when all of us were in Form I (Phillip, Andres, Robert, Fulvio, I, one of the Montiel if my memory serves me right was Gonzalo, etc.)

What happened Andres, I do not live in West Palm Beach but in Broward County and soon in Caracas again and the name is not Raul Andres Leoni Fernandez, I do not know where you took Escobar, but you were not too far anyway.

Again a hug to all and my better desires for this year 2008.

Wow, you are fast, now I'll really have to get off my butt time permitting and try to trace Rommel Rosero for you with the local Colegio de Ingenieros.

I'll give you progress reports on whether I make any headway or not.

Laszlo is trying to procure the address of Raulcito to contact him and to send him the Circular of Mount, but I suppose that his address is in West Fort Lauderdale does not leave where it leaves the photo.

I am pending with you to telephone the School of Engineers of Venezuela to look for Rommel Rosero.

It looks that all the world that can is moving to Florida.

If I have the dates all right, during my second year in the Mount (Sep 1965) Raul Leoni (son) arrived.

He had the bed next to mine in the dormitory of small boys, (after they turned the original chapel to the dormitory of Prep A and Form I.

During that era there was intense guerrilla activity in Venezuela and Raul Leoni father, the President of Venezuela (1964-1969), it seemed to me that his father feared for the security of its son, so he sent to Trinidad to study English until things calmed.

I believe that he was at the Mount for a single year (scholastic year 1965-1966), but I am not sure...

With the Raulcito came several children of officials from the government of Venezuela, like the son of the Minister of Defense (Enrique Gomez) and the son of the commander of the Navy (Becerra), and of the judge of the Supreme Court of justice.

I remember that the Raul Jr always spoken of his adventures in the field at his property near Upata in the Edo Bolivar. (His father had been Senator by that State before being chosen President).

He was very very cowboy.

He taught us to use the lasso of the llaneros at the Mount to lasso the cows.

I rememeber that we practiced with scout ropes trying to connect the head of all those that would let us.

Also I remember with emotion in the Maiquetia airport, while we were in the waiting room, the President Leoni arrived with great pomp to accompany and to say good bye to his son before we mounted on the airplane to Piarco.

In an occasion Raulcito presented us his father.

There I had the opportunity to meet the President of Venezuela personally, although I was very young to appreciate the importance of that.

Raul Leoni son now this living in Weston, FL and I believe that he is active in the politics of opposition outside the country.

Annexed I am sending a recent photo of him.

He has not changed much, only got bald and older (like all us).

I am going it to contact him to see what happens.

I understand from Lew´s mother that the two of them moved to Florida but I do not know to which part. I shall find out.

The other according to Laszlo moved to Miami was Raul Leoni (Jr.).

I remember, aside from that Doña Menca visited to us sometimes, that the Leoni had a cattle ranch in Upata, Edo. Bolivar, not far from the EL Manteco on the road towards Santa Elena de Uairen.

Subject: Mount St. B. information requested

Dear Trevor:

Our masters were Dom. Basil Mathews, M.A., (English Language and Literature) - Father Paul (Maths) - Father Chrysostom Leesing (Spanish/French) - Father Leo (Latin) - Dom Ildefons Von Scroots (History and Geography).

I attended M.S.B. from January 1948 - December 1949.

John Gordon Lang (his second try) and I (my first try) both secured "First Grades".

In the previous year (1948, I think) Noel Llanos was first student to gain a First Grade,

I believe he also came second in the island and was awarded the Jerningaam Medal.

He was, I think 14, when he sat.

Yourself, J.G. Lang, Hamil Marcelin, Norris Blanc, Angus Fraser, Raymond Vivies, Raymond Devaux, Scipio Soodeen, Louis Ache, Sidney Raymond (Seminarian) Vincent Compton (Seminarian) Gerald Farinha (Cramody-Crammer boy) - also a Seminarian and myself.

Oh, yes, another day student Philip (Pip) Vire, Ligouri Inkim and Archie Didier - Ince, Inkim and Didier were all from Arima.

This was the class of 48/49 -

Dom. Bernard Vlaar was our Abbot for awhile then Dom. Adalbert Van Duin (at the time, only 32 and the youngest Abbot in the world).

Dom. Placid Ganteaume was Abbot a while and perhaps because his family also hailed from Arima was really one of the few masters who would display an almost fatherly kind attitude towards me - even calling me by my first name.

Herewith are a few stories worth telling which I hope Ladislao will use:-

1) One afternoon, I happened to be standing next to Father John - we were watching the boarders enter the Chapel adjacent to the College and he remarked to me - "You can always tell when someone has been taught good manners" - I asked why - his response - Of all the boys who have entered the Chapel (Nobby) Blanc was the only one to wipe his shoes on the doormat.

2) In 1978, and I still have his reply, I wrote a good natured letter to Father Ildefons who I knew had become an outstanding charismatic Priest in Trinidad. This seemed so much at odds with the personality I knew back in 1948/49. I told him that he had the distinction of being the only teacher who had ever expelled me from his History class - not only for that day but he told me to get out and never to return to his class. He replied saying that for most of his life, he had been searching and had only found true faith about 12 years before.

3) The 'day students' were generally regarded by the Masters as tokens - we were 'add ons' and the main thrust of the College was, believe it or not, on the boarders. Our day students, apart from the three Arima boys (in Form Five, my Form) were the good looking Frankie Cook, Desmond Brunton, Ian (Guinea) Lee Kam and two other East Indian boys who never used the Abbey Bus as we did - they always walked - one was named Mohammed - the Abbey bus drivers were Straker and Edwards.

4) Fast Forward to the late 80's (I think) - Dom. Bernard (the Cobra) was visiting Barbados and staying with friends of ours - he asked them to call me - I was of course happy to see him after those many years and he said to me - "You know we had it all wrong in those days - we catered only to the boys of the elite families - in Trinidad, Guyana, Grenada, St. Lucia and of course Venezuela". Sadly, Father Bernard who had subsequently suffered a stroke after he left Barbados, died a rather tragic death, I think in St. Maarten (Dutch side) - accidentally he had turned on the hot water to fill his tub and because of his stroke had limited mobility - he just could not reach to turn off the tap.

In conclusion, Dom. Adalbert Van Duin was always exceptionally nice to me, so was the incorrigible Father Chrysostom Lee Sing. I had a good relationship with Brother Anthony (Drake) - Brother Gabriel (Pax Honey) - Brother George (who had been previously the sexton at the Santa Rosa Church in Arima) as well as Brothers. Gerald, Michael (Bakery) and as every other boy was aware - Father Peter, our resident Saint.

U.I.O.G.D. UT IN OMNIBUS GRATIA DEO - THAT IN ALL THINGS GOD MAY BE BLEST.

Best regards. CECIL

Ladislao,

Recd. your Emails , regarding the one from Cecil I have no comments at this time I notice that you have Prep B in 1943.

I thought that the school started in 1944.

The first boys that I can remember were John Darwent, John Mendes, John Llanos, Vincent Compton, Sydney Raymond..

When I arrived in 1945 April there were only about 40 students.

Oh I forgot Jack Knaggs, the names of some of those are Norris Blanc, John.D. Miller, Scipio Soodeen, Tony Gomes, Clive Bettencourt Gomes, Emanuel Mendes, Terence Gonsalves, Brian Gonsalves, Bunny Gonsalves, Jeffrey Prada, Big Arneau, Hamil Marcelin, Tommy Jardim, Terence Paulic .

There were others at the start but I cannot remember.

We were housed on the top floor of the building at the bottom of the the path of the New school at top of hill

The bottom floor was the rec. Room, the refectory and Bro Michael in his bakery.

Will add to this later

Trevor

(From news the school started in 1942, but of course I do not know with what grade. Ed.)

Just sitting around doing nothing but thought of something in your email who left MSB and went somewhere else to finish school well here goes.

These left and went to England

Clive Bettencourt Gomes

Brian Gonsalves

Bunny Gonsalves

Terence Gonsalves

John Willems

Anthony Willems

John Farfan

David Farfan

Nigel Slinger

Paul Slinger

There may be others but cannot remember.

Have not received replies from the old boys I contacted perhaps they do not want to open up old memories.

I cannot see why in those days we had the best of everything those years.

1945 to 1949 were some of the best years of my life.

Good friends who unfortunately have ended up all over the world so the friendships were lost.

Something I cannot understand is the fact that the person who should know a great deal about what took place in the past is not helping ??????? Art.

Perhaps I am totally out of touch any way I will try my best from time to time to send thins to you.

Tony Vieira ...

Monday, January 7, 2008 5:06:27 PM

Dear Ladislao,

I do not know a John Vieira, Terry John Vieira AKA spoof is my father's brother, my uncle; he is still alive living in Guyana, there is therefore no Terrence Vieira as well.

Clyde Vieira was at the mount with us and I knew him well, his entire family mother, father etc. moved to Canada years ago before 1970.

I know that since I was looking for him to invite him to my first marriage and I have never heard of him or his family since.

Anthony Vieira is of course yours truly.

the Dornellas', the Ferrieras and the Gonsalves' have all migrated to Canada, Robert Wight is still here in Guyana.

I'll find out if he uses a computer.

I did not know of anyone whose Name Vieira is spelt another way but the Guyana telephone directory does tell me that only one Michael Viera lives here in Guyana obviously an error of some sort.

Strange things happen in countries when different races migrate to it, I once had a friend whose name was Yacub Ali but his father had a company called A. Mazaralli and sons, so I once asked him how the hell his surname was Ali and his father's name was Mazarali, now these people were big lumber dealers had several sawmills around Guyana they still do,

he explained that when his father was born he was to be called Anand Mazar Ali, and the idiots at the post office registering the birth recorded his name as Anand Mazarali.

I have met one old timer who went to the Mount when it was first opened [he must have some real interesting stories] his name is John Williams he would around nearly 70 plus.

I can make contact with him he is still active since even though retired he is a member of the ethnic relations commission.

You are well?

I have been under the weather somewhat and it has not been a very joyful season for us this year, my mother died two days before Christmas day 2007.

I know that you sometimes enjoy my writing, so I have attached her Eulogy which I delivered in the church.

Tony

Dear Glen(G#2) & fellow musicians.

Welcome back to the home front.

Well I think you deserve a little rest.

Anyhow, seeing how you're just getting back.

Update, things are on hold, anyhow, as CheChe , said you guys have to get together and jam, I understand that personal thing as a musician.

Cafe Europa , sounds great.

Yeah, you guys, already, have a lot on your plate, with the plaque etc. and the Kitty fund also in progress.

So be careful, two of you, on how much more, you take on.

I only expect to hear about the musical reunion from you guys, depending on where we want to take this.

The rest of the work load will have to be picked up by other members, in the area, with arrangements, or in cooperation with you guys.

I understand, that there are a lot of brothers who want to party

Like guys from Venezuela who contacted me, and saying count them in.

We will have to get the word out that the band, is still in rehearsal.

Right ? About the band.

When you guys get together, a common song list would be nice.

So I know what stuff to refreshup on.

Mr. Norman Smith, a singer you say, excellent, and guitar player also.

Well we have to get the singer song list, because, that is what the singer sings. Cool.

Also if David is coming, a guy with CDs and a songwriter to, many Calypso/soca artist.

I'll say no more, Sounds you've heard, and don't even know, this is the guy who wrote them.

His music is already a tribute to what the music Calypso was, and will be classics in time.

I heard, Hudson play it all, from Elton John, Santana, Sparrow, Bob Marley, David Bowie, Eagles, Shadow, Kitch, Disco, Funk, Soca, Rock n Roll, Hendrix, after awhile it all became one style.

Hudson even helped arrange, for a section of a top pan side, in Trinidad.

Also a songwriter, keyboard player, with 3 or 4 of his original songs played in many countries.

Brothers, from what I see, we have, volumes of music, to share with each other.

Who knows where this can go? Let’s take it slow, let’s get the tempo.

Don't worry, we will have this band together, by the time we all retire.

It should be ready this week.

Send me your shipping address.

Hello David,

So you will be in Toronto.

Well, I will inform Hudson, Nigel and some of the boys in Toronto, of your visit there.

It will be a prefect time for some of the boys to meet a brother that was on the mount way before us, and a wicked musician.

David, you and Hudson will have to make contact.

Hudson is in contact with recording studios, in Toronto and very connected to Caribana people and stuff.

As like yourself Hudson and his son, also have a few songs on C.D etc.

Hudson son, Gino is very involved with the Soca Warriors club in Toronto.

David, if you get to Montreal then you are close to my place.

David if you want to come for a few days to Nova Scotia, you are more than welcome to stay at my house.

I know how busy things get for Caribana in Toronto.

If I can, I will try to catch you in Toronto while you are there.

My mother and sister also live there.

Thank you again for all your wonderful CDs , that you have sent me over time.

Playing only sweet notes,

Yours truly,

Glen McKoy.

Hi guys,

What is this about coming down to Florida to Jam.

I live in Florida on the west coast.

That’s where you want to be away from Miami.

Book any thing near to Clearwater beach and you won’t regret it "THE BANDIT"

Thank you so much David, fellas ah hearing the West coast? ?/ CheChe , you will have to comment to David on this.

Also any old boy playing drums?? yet.

What instrument is Norman playing again. I forgot, I read it , somewhere.

Also CheChe we have to rehash the all the old band lists, that came up in past circular issues.

May be, a note to all mount past musicians, might be an idea.

Nigel it might be time for the Musicians List ?? More work ha! ha!

Love to all

Glen.

Thank you Nigel,

CheChe, I see, Mr Norman Smith might be adding some notes to the event.

We are, in the planning stage, also we got some interest from a couple of old boys in Venezuela, who coming for the lime, for sure.

Once we have an idea, of how many people are interested then we can, narrow down a compatible time frame, to work with that will be best, for all.

But don't worry, we are working on this and other pending projects right it now.

We are also waiting for a major contributor, and one of the arrangers, of the event in Florida Jam,

Mr Glen Evelyn (#2) To get back to the states.

If it was up to CheChe, he ready now.

My wife asked me last night what part of Florida is the event, as she was checking on ticket prices for me I don't even know the answer to where in Florida yet..

However between Tim, CheChe, G#2, G#3, Wayne Hackett, in Florida also, many boys that are in the area will jump in to help out, when arrangements are organised.

So please rest tight for the moment.

Thanking all of you in advance, you party people, who have already contacted us on the Florida Jam Session.

The eager support, we are already receiving is amazing.

We were talking about a House or the beach, the way it was looking, if it continues like this, we might have to get a Hotel.

Please those of you who are interested, please send your names in to Rafael Echeverriav (CheChe) or Tim Healy (Tarzan) or Glen Evevlyn (G#2) or myself Glen McKoy(G#1)

Thank again and looking forward to your comments.

Yours truly

Glen McKoy.

Hey Stu, Norman,

A couple of Old Boys of MSB are planning to get together in Florida to have a jam session sometime in summer.

I just thought that you might like to get involved with them, and to bring your guitars as well.

OK. I know that perhaps you all do not know one another AS YET, but hey, it might be an opportunity to get together and to enjoy some good company.

If you're interested, perhaps you can coordinate through Glen McKoy in Nova Scotia. (mckoy43glen@hotmail.com)

Hello/ Hola todos / my brothers / Things are slowly warming up/ How yuh doing ? Hope all is well.

Neil, that photo, is me this year, on a boat, in the arm, in the Halifax harbour, on the coast right before you hit the real ocean,

The Cap covering the bald head from the sun.

I'm 52 yrs old, this year, Brazilian women ripped my hair out, in expressing their passionate love, for me, when I was young, and it never grew back, no regrets, life goes on.

Attila, should like that.

Remember man, the Titanic, well this is the port that responded to the s.o.s call when the ship was sinking, every thing that was found, was brought back here to Halifax, even the bodies of the victims are buried here, lots of history.

I use to sail every summer, out of South-West cove, right across from Peggy's cove , here in Nova Scotia, for about 20 years, with my buddy father, who was, always the captain, he was like the top shrink, here in Halifax in the 60's-80's, and then he passed away a few years ago, he was in his late 80's,

Like ah father, learned a lot from him.

I lost interest in sailing, and only motor boat around now.

However, the Atlantic Ocean is wild in the summer months here, it gets hot, but the ocean is still colder than Ice.

The sailing was great; not that smooth, but I loved it.

It was like Running down from White Stones, and yuh late for Showers at Six.?

What If ??

If I was coming to Florida, for any gathering, you guys better have a boat trip booked, for part of the day, I hope, on this long weekend event by the ocean.

Rent a place on by the ocean, a big place by the beach, &n bsp; close to good food, for the weekend.

Well yuh know there will be a lot of guys, from Canada that might decide to come down.

Some guys might come with wives or who ever, would of course arrange for a motel/hotel close by.

But, the place we rent, for that weekend, is Grand Central, Hang-Out .

Real Musicians coming, and is party time, and we go be, jamming down the place.

If Hudson come, we need to rent a good Keyboard, if Wayne Hackett come we have real Pan, if David De Castro (the calypso bandit) come, yuh have a band, if Rafael Echeverria (CheChe) comes we will have a Wicked Bass Player, if I Glen McKoy (Guitar#1) and Glen Evelyn(Guitar#2) comes, we have two guitar players here already, and rent a drum set too,

I play drums; Wayne plays drums, or a member, Kid??

Also rent a Roland Acoustic Chorus Amp/ for me to play thru ( my Godin/ Nylon String Electric Acoustic) it also has a Vocals channel,

If you see a good price, in Florida, I will buy, and keep it there till I come down, and who knows, who else are musicians in the group.

If all these guys come together, and of course all the limers, memories forever, yours. Don't worry; the boys from Canada will foot a big part of the bill.

Well, we who stay in" The party house by the Sea." Book now with CheChe/Tim/G#2.

Of Course with all the excitement of getting together, some boys might have a little to much to drink, then you have a place, to crash, call the wife say, yuh to drunk to drive, will see yuh in the morning.

The never ending Jam, All night long

As an Imaginary member, of (the high command) The Committee, now.

We are required to have at all reunions, a escort/body guard on hand to ensure, that any committee members or members on hand are not harassed / or intimidated and nothing, prevents the event, the party, from happening as planed.

So on behalf of the committee, I am requesting Anthony Garner (Mono) to accompany me to Florida, as official of the Law here in Canada,

This committee member will feel safe to have Mono on site, for the event.

LET'S GET THE PARTY STARTED / DO AH LITTLE DANCE / SING A LITTLE SONG / GET DOWN TO FLORIDA.
