Hi Ladislao,

As a foreigner living in Jamaica, we used to go to Bombshell bay for the easter holidays.

That was the place where we got the best sugar apples and Red Jamaica plums .

Brings back a lot of good memories

Dear Harry

Thank you for writing.

Yes, there is good possibility of getting back to your friends on line.

Unfortunately not all are active on email, look up the blog page, remember that Don manages the Blog and if you want me to include you in the Newsletter you must copy me.

We did graduate together in 1960 but you do not appear in the last photo taken of the class, why?

Do you have photos to share.

When did you enter MSB?, were you a dayboy?

Please tell us your resume. Where did you go after graduating?, married? etc.

Whereabouts of any MSB friends that you know.

God bless

Ladislao

Dear Ladislao;

By "googling" my name I came across reference to the Mount. I graduated in 1960.

I live, retired, in Portland, Oregon, USA.

I was a Vice President in the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union.

I would like to "talk" to some of former graduates.

I remember Manuel Prada, Daniel DeVerteuil (hope I spelled that right), Randy Galt, Vincent Brown etc.

If you receive this, can you please answer at guildner@aol.com.

Sincerely,

Harry Guildner

Dear Ladislao;

Received your response and will send you info later.

I don't know why I do not appear in the class picture.

I do remember being very sick when we took our finals.

Dear Ladislao;

You can certainly publish my e-mail address - guildner@aol.com.

Please include me in the Newsletter.

My address is Harry Guildner, 10331 N.E. Beech St., Portland, OR 97220.

I believe I came to MSB in '55 and graduated in '60.

I lived in El Tigrito, Venezuela.

I travelled all over that country with my father and mother - Cumana, Cumanacoa, Maturin, Punta Gorda.

I grew up on the "llanos".

So I flew home for summer and Christmas vacations.

Stayed for Easter.

I was a member of the "St. Francis" unit -black and gold squares.

I believe Randy (Galt) and Prada belonged to the St. Benedict group.

My aunt is a nun with the Carmelites.

They now have a house just below the swimming pool.

She kept me informed of MSB highlights.

She told me Fa Francis (choir, music) went to Jamaica and that the Mount became a drug rehab facility.

I remember the likes of Bobo, Fa Eugene, Fa Chris, Bro Vincent, Mrs. Shoop, Fa Peter, Fa Ildefonse, Fa Gerome, Fa Bede, Fa Simeon, Bro Anthony etc.

When I came to MSB, Fa Chris was the headmaster.

Bobo was in England.

I think a year passed and Bobo came on the scene as headmaster and Chris became Dean.

When I left Fa Eugene was Dean - played the violin.

There are hypocrites in all organisations. Fa Eugene was one.

Nicest thing I can say about that man.

Fa Chris was a narcissist. Penance was kneeling in the shoe rack area and picking gray hair from his well brillcreamed hair.

He also required those of us that cooked in the hills to share the food.

And share what we brought from home.

As I read your Circulars, I recall names and faces.

Prada and the Galts were the athletes in football and cricket.

I was more into track.

I also remember a DeVerteuil that had a photographic memory.

And a student that left the school because of behaviour problems.

I think his last name was Henderson.

When I left school, I came to the States to University of Nebraska.

I did not graduate. Got married, two daughters (now with three grandchildren).

By chance, I was offered a job with the American Federation of Grain Millers International Union, elected Vice President, got divorced, and am now retired as of Jan. 1 2008.

The AFGM Intl. Union merged with the Bakery, Confectionery and Tobacco Workers in 2000 to be the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union retaining my position as Vice President.

If you go to www.BCTGM.org you will see more of the organisation I served.

I don't think I saved any pictures.

When we left Venezuela, we left everything with my dad and he lost it all.

I will see what I have and send it to you.

Sent you a picture of my two grandchildren, Shelby and Ethan (by youngest daughter Lisa) at Halloween and me at the beach on the Oregon coast.

Harry G.

I remember a nite after lights out, Gerrard, myself and a few other guys snuck out and went down to the disco/pub at the back of the Scarlet Ibis Hotel.

After a few hours of drinking and dancing we all look up to see Fr Cuthbert, he walked straight to our table and said "are u guys ready to go up" we all said "yes father" and we all walked silently to the van.

For about 2 days he didn't say anything, the suspense was killing us so much that we all went to him to discuss what happen and that's when he gave us a week of penance to write a book.

Would u believe afterwards he told us that he completely forgot about us.

I never believed him. Cuthbert he never forgets .

Brother CheChe,

You stood so proud for the Mount, when the stones were been thrown.

I sensed your pride for the Mount, 100% and you never altered.

As a fellow musician, we are naturally in tune.

Love where you are, love who you're with and love what you do and don't worry about the world coming to an end today, its already tomorrow in Australia.

As a fellow thinker.

The Lesson: The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with most credentials, the most money, or the most awards.

They are ones that care my friend, so many brothers are giving their time, in many ways, to make this brotherhood stand on its feet.

This was all I could offer on behalf of the hippies from sixties

Take care

Glen.......

TO ALL MY BROTHERS /

#1 RESPECT TO WHERE WE USE TO LIVE - EAT & SLEEP /MSB- ABBEY SCHOOL- / FEB.8TH/2008

PERSONAL INTEGRITY

Being happy with yourself and your work requires personal integrity, an integration of the many parts of your personality working together as one cohesive whole.

People with personal integrity don't act one way at work and another way at home.

They have the same standards of honesty, behaviour and emotional response wherever they are.

Strive to bring out the best in yourself and others.

Remind yourself to help others who need help and be generous with your time and energy.

Your reputation and enthusiasm will soar.

EMOTIONAL VITALITY

To remain emotionally healthy, you must be able to recover from past and present disturbing situations and enrich your connections to people and events.

I've found that during the first half of life, experiences of joy usually emanate from events that go your way.

During the second half of life, however, emotionally healthy adults are capable of experiencing true joy despite the things that might happen to them.

We lose the grandiosity of youth that says we can and must be the force at the centre of life.

Unfortunately, most of us have little emotional training before midlife, so we have trouble responding competently to anger, pain and fear.

Interacting well with others requires that we be able to establish caring relationships and unify the strong and sensitive aspects of our personalities.

Example: Are you happy when you give someone a gift?

For mature adults, the satisfaction of giving a gift far outweighs the thrill of receiving one.

In fact, experts call this altruism the hallmark of maturity and the foundation of satisfying relationships.

Important: Do not compare your successes and failures with those of others.

This will deflate your view of yourself unnecessarily.

You will underestimate the value of what you have done, or you may end up with a false sense of superiority that will squelch your motivation.

SPIRITUAL SERENITY

Midlife spiritual anxiety is exceedingly normal.

If we don't struggle to find more satisfying answers to age-old questions about life and our mortality, we risk facing old age with fear and anger as main companions,

Its helpful to come to terms with life.

Our mortality is less frightening when we feel we have made the most of our lives.

Give in to feelings about your mortality.

Crystallising your feelings can lead to a clearer sense of life purpose and greater degree of life satisfaction.

Best regards to all, its Lent , just a peaceful note to my brothers

A VERY OLD LETTER WRITTEN TO Fr. Cuthbert

Caracas, 29 March 2002.

Dear Fr. Cuthbert

This is the first time I write to you since my visit to TT. The visit brought back good memories and as you see in my lines written for msb oldboys and the web page there is a movement to inquire about old friends and classmates.

I am glad to have been able to meet you and have the short conversation, Thank you again for the rosaries, blue and pink. I am sorry that the time was short and that I could not exchange all the ideas that were in my head as I was being escorted by the friends where I stayed, and I did not want to take more of their time than would have been excessive.

Is the yoghurt selling well?? What do you do for the milk? This could cost quite a bit and make the production expensive???

By now you must have read several of my circulars. I hope that you like them. In my addressing system I still do not know how to separately address the circulars so that Fr. Augustine would get his personally and Fr. Cuthbert but some day. I write to all of you with the same kindness.

I would like to get the address of Fr. Paul and Fr. Francis, whom are said to be still living and in a retreat house. Of course if there is an e-mail it would be good and if you could send some lines on those dead, the year, where, and how, that would be interesting. I remember you answering to my questions but my hard drive was full and cannot reproduce your answer for my circulars.

I am including the general list of msb students, I am sure you can add some more and eliminate those that were not. I shall keep you informed if new ones appear. The biggest problem is to find out the Form V graduation year because of the Hi C and other additional courses that were given after the Oxford and Cambridge exams. Maybe Mrs. Markus can help with the list that she worked on. Do you show her the circulars???. How can I get an access to her year listing???. Don Mitchell who visited you last May told me that Fr. John offered the listing and photos from Fr. Bernard??. Maybe you can follow up.

I am in constant contact with Dr. Isaias Farcheg whom you know and he sends his best greetings.

I need a two line information on those that have been in contact with you during these last years. Many of us have lost contact with others and are curious.

Has there been a book of magazine written about the Mount, outside the Jubileum issues?? It is interesting that when I was in TT I have heard promotion to visit the Mount in a radio station but no information appears in the internet??.

I am sending you this by mail as I am not sure you are getting the weekly information that I send by email.

God Bless

Ladislao

(Sorry to say that there is no additional following this letter, ed.)
